WiFiTutors have commissioned local trainer Lisa Rodgers to share insights into the regional differences in maths curricula among our international team of tutors. Lisa is a Mechanical Engineering Graduate of Queens University Belfast, Northern Ireland, and holds a PGCE with a Mathematics specialism, also from Queens. She has extensive teaching experience in comprehensive and grammar schools, and is currently employed as a numeracy and literacy trainer with a local training company.
Teaching and learning Mathematics is Lisa’s passion, ever since her award of the Elizabeth Fulton prize for the best performing student on the Mathematics PGCE course while at Queens.
Lisa’s role is to explain crucial variances in Mathematics curricula across the UK and Northern Ireland at each key stage:
“In England and Wales at Key Stage 3, the emphasis is more on attainment targets, while there is a significant cross curricular skills element in Northern Ireland.
It’s important that our team of tutors is made fully aware of these differences so that we can best prepare our students to perform to their potential in the academic year ahead.
I’m delighted to be involved with WiFi and get the opportunity to share insights with people who are serious about Maths!”
